How to Build an Affiliate Website using WordPress

Creating your own affiliate website can seem like an intimidating task if you’ve never done it before, but luckily there are plenty of tools and tutorials available to make the process easier than you might think. This guide on how to build an affiliate website will walk you through creating an affiliate website in seven easy steps, no matter what niche you’re working in or what tools you already have at your disposal. All you need to create your very own affiliate site is WordPress, a domain name, and some hosting space. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Choose a Domain Name

Before you start building your website, make sure you know what your domain name is going to be. It’s a good idea to pick a short (maximum of 10 characters) but easy to spell and remember the URL. GoDaddy offers relatively inexpensive options when it comes to domains, but other third-party companies like Hover are also popular. Once you decide on a domain name, check if it’s available, and then head over to Namecheap where you can find coupon codes that will help make registration cheaper.

Step 2: Install WordPress

Installing a powerful CMS like WordPress is critical if you plan on building your affiliate website. There are tons of pre-made websites out there that can help you get your affiliate business up and running quickly, but as mentioned earlier, you’ll want to take control of your site so that it’s geared towards your specific product niche. In addition, it gives you full access to all of the features that come with owning a self-hosted site. You can learn how to install and set up a free version of WordPress by reading our guide How To Create A Website: The Complete Guide.

Step 3: Choose a Theme

You’ll want to choose a theme for your website that offers multiple design and color options. You can hire a designer or developer to create a custom theme for you, but often, it’s easier and less expensive to find one that is already available online. If you don’t know where to start looking, ask friends who are designers or developers if they have any favorites they can recommend. Once you pick out a theme, install it and preview how it looks on your site (you may need some assistance from your designer). If everything looks good, go ahead and publish your new website!

Step 4: Create Your Content

Now that you have your website all set up, it’s time to build out your site. Since many of your content pieces will be free downloads and short write-ups, there isn’t much need for a plan here. What you will want to do is make sure all of your posts are properly tagged and categorized so that they can easily be found by anyone searching for relevant keywords. From here, it’s all about driving traffic through search engine optimization (SEO) – not hard when you’re writing about popular topics like making money with affiliate marketing or Amazon affiliate websites!

Step 5: Add the Code for the Site to be Mobile Friendly

As part of our WordPress tutorial, we also want to make sure that our site is mobile-friendly so that visitors will enjoy a great user experience on both desktop and smartphone devices. To accomplish that, we’ll need to add some code so let’s get started! In your dashboard go to Settings > Writing > Mobile > select yes from under Would you like your posts and pages to be search engine optimized for Smartphone devices? Then click on Save Changes. Now you can rest assured knowing your website will be fully responsive.

Step 6: Add Affiliate Links

Once you’ve registered your domain and hosting, it’s time to start building your site. Before you add any pages or posts, set up a new page. This will be your affiliate link page, where you can list every company or service that offers affiliate products you want to promote on your site. If they offer multiple products or services, create separate pages for each item. On each of these pages (except for the main homepage), upload their logo image and make sure it links back to their homepage via anchor text.

Step 7: Promote your site!

Now that you have a site up and running, it’s time to let people know about it. There are several ways you can do so. In short, if you want people on your website, first go out and find them! There are many ways to promote your website online but if you are just starting out we recommend blogging, social media (Twitter and Facebook), and submitting your affiliate sites for free submission at the DMOZ directory or SEOmoz’s Open Directory Project.
